Obituary for Virginia 'Ginny' Wilkening

Wilkening, Virginia “Ginny” of Chaska, MN celebrated her eternal birthday on her 70th birthday at home surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. Ginny was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on January 16th, 1954 to Charles and Hazel Berglund, and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1972. She met her lifetime partner and soulmate, Sid Wilkening in 1971, and they were united in marriage on August 2nd, 1975 after her graduation from Marshalltown Community College dental assisting school. Ginny was a very accomplished dental assistant in Iowa, and worked at Parkway Dental in the Twin Cities, where she had resided since 1983. Her professional life was marked by a commitment to excellence and a genuine concern for the well-being of others, and her dedication and compassion touched the lives of those around her. Ginny is survived by her loving family: Husband Sid, daughter, Allyson Heimark (Brandon) of Alpine, WY, and her four grandchildren, who brought her so much joy: Nolan, Abby, Crosby and Jamison. They adored their GG, and will have many memories to cherish. She is also survived by sisters Barb Lorenzo (Dan) of Marshalltown, IA and Nancy Overman (Tom) of Easley, SC, as well as a large extended family, including her loving in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she made a positive impact on the community with her warm spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand. A self-proclaimed “bird nerd”, Ginny greatly enjoyed her walks in the woods, and she was an avid gardener who loved being one with nature. Ginny’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of life for this remark- able woman will be held in April at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, with details to follow on social media. The family prefers memorials to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Attn: Tributes, PO Box 860647, Minneapolis, MN 55486-0647 or arbtributes@umn.edu. May she rest in peace.

VA Spirits Board & VA Distillery Co. Commemorate America’s 250th with Exclusive Trio Pack

Good Morning Washington interviews Amanda Beckwith of Virginia Distillery Company- one of the contributing distilleries to the Virginia Spirits Board’s 250th Celebration Trio Pack, a special, exclusive release created to commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. This limited-edition package features a curated collection of a rum, a gin, and a whiskey, all crafted from scratch by distillers in Virginia to celebrate the rich history and current state of distilling within the Commonwealth.

Beckwith elaborates on VA Distillery Company’s role in the project, noting her focus on Virginia-grown grain to make the bottle of unique whiskey that is included in the Trio Pack. It is also worth noting that the Trio Packs themselves were bottled and produced right here at Virginia Distilling Company!

American single malts are the newest official category of American whiskey, distilled from one grain and from a single distillery. Virginia Distillery Co specializes in this new category of whiskey and crafted their contribution to the Trio Pack with this very specialty. Given the limited remaining availability of the Trio Pack, its historical value and collectible nature, the message it loud and clear encouraging viewers to grab a pack before they are all gone!
