No. 12 Virginia edged late in season opener at No. 11 Penn State, 3-2

The No. 12 Virginia area hockey crew misplaced its season opener towards No. 11 Penn State on a last-minute aim, falling 3-2 on Friday in College Park, Pa.
HOW IT HAPPENED

“It was a major effort in a major sport to open the season. Penn State is a gifted crew who performs very quick and excessive strain, so it was excellent for us. We had excessive factors that we will construct on. We lead twice within the sport. Then there are elements of the sport that we undoubtedly want to handle.
“Tyler [Kennedy] did a tremendous job holding us within the sport. That’s what you need from a goalie to maintain you within the sport so you may have an opportunity to win it and he or she did.
“It was a powerful exhibiting by our first years of their first faculty sport. We simply have to stay to the fundamentals, follow the easy, follow the sport plan. Essentially the most encouraging half for me was that we weren’t even enjoying our sport and we had an opportunity to win towards a tricky opponent.”

Virginia closes out its opening weekend at No. 17 Delaware (1-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
