WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -A Bill going through Virginia State Legislature focuses on keeping election workers safe.

Lisa Jeffers, Director of Elections for the City of Waynesboro said she hopes this bill would make people more comfortable participating in the election process.

While they have not seen a decrease of election workers in Waynesboro, Jeffers hopes the bill will encourage more people to work elections which can be stressful.

“As long as you follow the code, It is remembering so many things that have got to be done and making sure all the Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed,” said Jeffers.

Jeffers said if any voters have questions, they can come and ask.

”We can explain all of our equipment is L&A which is logistics and accuracy testing prior, there are so many checks and balances,” said Jeffers.

They have received questions related to early voting before Election Day, said Jeffers.

“They will already be marked on Election Day, so should they present to vote, they will not be able to double vote,” said Jeffers.

Jeffers said the Office of Voter Registrar has been preparing since around December and are in full Election mode.
