Tom’s Tree Place honored as Texas Treasure after 75 years in business
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock business is celebrating 75 years of making Lubbock beautiful.
Tom’s Tree Place near 34th and Slide has specialized in landscape architecture and horticulture since 1950.
In honor of this history, Tom’s received a special recognition from the Texas Historical Commission on Saturday.
The commission presented Tom’s Tree Place with the Texas Treasure Historic Business Award, recognizing its decades of continuous operation and cultural significance to the state of Texas.
Alex Scarborough, whose family owns Tom’s Tree Place, tells us it’s an honor to be recognized and a testament to the Lubbock community’s support.
“It’s a real honor to be part of a family that has dedicated two generations at this point to serving Lubbock and Lubbock has been good to us,” Scarborough said.
Scarborough added he can’t wait to see the next generation of the family take tom’s tree place to its 100th anniversary.
