Texas deputy arrested for leaving baby in hot car for hours
Authorities arrested Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy Antonio Almaraz, 31, shortly after the infant was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to NBC News. Around 1 p.m., the infant was discovered unresponsive inside Almaraz’s car and brought to the hospital, where they remained in critical condition as of Tuesday, per NBC News.
The hospital called the sheriff’s office to report the incident around 2 p.m. Almaraz received an order of dismissal from the sheriff’s office soon after. He now faces charges of causing injury to a child, abandoning a child with intent to return, and endangering a child.
In a statement to WOAI, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said, “Given the amount of awareness in the community regarding leaving children unattended in vehicles, there is absolutely no valid excuse for this to have occurred. My family and I are praying for the best possible outcome for this precious baby.”
