A dog has been going viral after a nonprofit Texas animal shelter’s hilarious social media post made a way for him to be adopted quickly.

The Humane Society of Wichita County Facebook page wrote it was looking for someone “man enough” to adopt its “a**hole” dog named Eddie, a rottweiler and dachshund mixed breed.

“If Eddie had an accent, he would sound like he’s from the Bronx, wearing a wife beater T-shirt and a tattoo that says ‘MOM’ on his arm,” the social media post said. “If you got into a bar fight, Eddie would back you up and take on all five guys put his cigarette out on their forehead and not spilling a drop of his beer while doing it.”

The funny post gained attraction with more than 25,000 likes and nearly 80,000 shares as of Wednesday. Soon, the 17-pound dog was adopted by a family who lived nearly two hours away from the shelter.

“Very happy to say, our ‘a**hole’ dog has found his forever home! As long as they keep his cigarettes and beer well stocked and keep him away from bulldogs eyeing him up across the courtyard (although I’m pretty sure he could easily whoop ’em), he’s going to be just fine!” the Humane Society social media post said.

Since then, there have been multiple media outlets reporting on the post made by the Humane Society. However, there’s more to Eddie’s story.

Since arriving at the shelter in late October, Eddie was initially considered a sweet dog. However, just as the social media post stated, he was always ready to stand four paws on business.

The Human Society of Wichita County Executive Director Cheryl Heineken told the Houston Chronicle that Eddie was fighting with other small dogs and could not be in the same kennels with them.

“We’ll put all of the small dogs together and they’ll play and run around to get that energy out,” she said. “But we tried Eddie with a couple of different dogs, and we couldn’t pair him up (with anyone). Then he’d run and charge to the fence to the big dogs trying to fight them.”

According to Heineken, the Humane Society has encouraged their staff to be honest with people planning to adopt dogs by stating what to expect and pairing them with a pet of their choice whether the dog is a “couch potato” or  “active.” So, they would take turns writing social media posts for each of their animals.

The honesty in Eddie’s post got more people from different areas also wanting to adopt him, Heineken said.

Although Eddie had “beef” with other dogs, he was calmer with humans. Even when he was adopted by the Brooks family, he was seen realized in the arms of the daughter.

The Human Society of Wichita County has been doing similar posts for their other housed pets. Their goal is to save as many pets who are at risk for euthanization, and take them off of the “kill list.”

The Houston Chronicle has reached out to Eddie’s new family for a comment.
