GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Colorado Mesa Swim and Dive six-time national champion Ben Sampson will be continuing his swimming career, and be doing a very similar hand gesture for his school, but instead of ‘Mav Up’, it will be the ‘Horns Up’ gesture for University of Texas.

The now former Maverick Swimmer announced his plans to continue his athletic career via Instagram.

Sampson was named Division II Men’s Swimmer of the Year the past two seasons. Along the way the Arvada Native won 22 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, 21 All-American honors, twelve CMU records, and four RMAC records and was named RMAC Swimmer of the Year three times.

On the national level Sampson has six national championships, tied for the most of any athlete in Maverick Colors ever, and two DII Records in the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard individual medley.

“I tried to at least leave a legacy here. And this team was, you know, really bad when I got here and we weren’t we didn’t have a national presence at all. And so the fact that we’re leaving, I believe in this place better than I found it is what I take the most pride in,” Sampson said after this year’s NCAA DII Meet.
