Trapped hiker rescued from Tennessee cave
SPARTA, Tenn. (WSMV) – A collaborative rescue effort involving ten agencies ended with the rescue of a trapped hiker on Saturday in White County.
According to the Sparta Rescue Squad, the call came in around 10:45 a.m. for a person trapped in a cave, so crews quickly responded to the scene, along with multiple other agencies.
An individual was unable to exit one of the caves and had become trapped inside. Nine hours later, the person was safely removed from the enclosure.

The Doyle Volunteer Fire Department, the Bon De Croft Volunteer Fire Department, the Piney Fire Department, Cookeville Fire and Rescue, the Eastland Fire Department, the Cherry Creek Fire Department, White County Emergency Management, Hamilton County Cave and Cliff, and TN Fire Chaplains all assisted with the rescue.
Putnam County Rescue also sent four crew members to cover that county for the Sparta team during the rescue efforts.
