A Tennessee man was taken into custody Thursday after he allegedly opened fire into an occupied car earlier this week during a road rage incident in Alabama, authorities said.

Donnie Kent, 29, is being held in the Lincoln County, Tennessee jail and is set to be extradited to Madison County in connection with the incident in Hazel Green, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said it received a report of a road rage incident on Highway 231 North in Hazel Green “earlier this week” involving a vehicle driving recklessly and dangerously. The office did not specify exactly when the incident occurred, but it is separate from another road rage incident that occurred in Hazel Green involving shots fired and an attack with a baseball bat.

During a joint investigation with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, detectives from both agencies identified Kent as a suspect.

“We appreciate the cooperation and support provided by Sheriff Tull Malone and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office throughout this investigation. The successful resolution and apprehension of the offender reflect the strong partnership between both agencies and our unwavering commitment to public safety.”

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 256-722-7181.
