Surgoinsville Museum, community members win awards from East Tennessee Historical Society

SURGOINSVILLE — The East Tennessee Historic Society (ETHS) introduced 41 awards at its annual awards ceremony, with three awards going to the Surgoinsville Space Archives and Museum and people concerned with the museum.

The ETHS held its Awards of Excellence Ceremony on June 7. The awards honor organizations and people that make necessary contributions to preserving and selling the area’s historical past.

The Surgoinsville Space Archives and Museum obtained an Award of Distinction for preserving native historical past with its creation in 2021.

Surgoinsville resident Johnny Greer obtained a Group Historical past Award for his involvement with the creation of the Surgoinsville Space Archives and Museum.

“I felt honored,” Greer mentioned. “Plenty of onerous work went into (the opening of the museum).”
