Saylors leads East Tennessee St to easy win over Mars Hill

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Jacob Saylors scored three touchdowns within the first quarter and East Tennessee State, ranked No. 11 within the FCS preseason ballot, rolled to a 44-7 win over Division II Mars Hill in a season-opening school soccer recreation on Thursday evening.

It was a stress-free debut for brand new coach George Quarles after changing Randy Sanders, who retired after the Buccaneers set a faculty document with 11 wins and reached the FCS quarterfinals. Quarles was an assistant at Furman the final 5 seasons and is in 4 Tennessee halls of fame, together with the Tennessee Soccer Coaches after going 250-16 in 22 seasons at Maryville Excessive College.

Saylors, the Southern Convention preseason Offensive Participant of the Yr, had scoring runs of 40 and 1-yard sandwiched round a 2 9-yard touchdown reception from Tyler Riddell because the Buccaneers led 20-0 after one quarter. Riddell added one other TD strike within the second quarter and it was 34-0 at halftime.

Jimmy Urza threw a 5-yard cross to Ty Snelson within the third quarter for the Mars Hill rating. That got here after Riddell’s third landing cross. Riddell completed 14 of 19 for 197 yards passing.
