Ole Miss football loses commitment of Tennessee transfer DB Tamarion McDonald

OXFORD — Usually the orchestrator of transfer portal chaos, Ole Miss football found itself on the wrong side of it on Monday.

Tamarion McDonald, a Tennessee transfer defensive back who previously had announced his commitment to the Rebels, is headed to Louisville, according to a post he made on social media.

McDonald played primarily as a slot corner for Tennessee. A Memphis native, he appeared in 10 games for the Volunteers during the 2023 season and had 40 tackles. He also broke up five passes and made one interception.

The Rebels have other reinforcements coming to bolster their secondary.

Corners Decamerion Richardson and Tahveon Nicholson spent the past two seasons as key contributors at Mississippi State and Illinois, respectively. Coordinator Pete Golding also is getting Oklahoma safety Key Lawrence and Indiana safety Louis Moore.

If he’s intent on finding a player specifically for that nickel role, though, Golding may have to dip back into the portal.
