Former Tennessee Titans top pick shockingly named a cut candidate | Sporting News

The Tennessee Titans are set to begin training camp this week and there will no doubt be plenty of eyes on wide receiver Treylon Burks, who is facing a crucial campaign for his career.

A former first-round pick, Burks has been the definition of a disappointment over two seasons. Not only has he dealt with injuries, he’s also been ineffective when on the field. Compounding Burks’ issues is the fact that he was the replacement for A.J. Brown, who was foolishly traded by former GM Jon Robinson in 2022.

With Burks having struggled mightily the past two seasons, and with his being pushed down the depth chart because of some of the Titans’ offseason moves, Pro Football Network’s Dakota Randall believes he’s a cut candidate.

The Titans would rather trade Treylon Burks than cut him but don’t be surprised if the 2022 first-rounder is outright released. Tennessee now has Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd on the roster and could decide to move on from Burks if he doesn’t step up in camp.

Burks is certainly facing an uphill battle in getting playing time this season after the Titans added Tyler Boyd and Calvin Ridley, which pushed Burks to fourth on the depth chart.

However, there is absolutely no scenario where he gets cut. At the very least, Burks is capable of showing out enough in training camp to secure his roster spot, and I’d argue he’s a lock to make the roster even if he doesn’t.

The only way Burks isn’t on the Titans in Week 1 is if they trade him, but they would not be wise to do that unless they get an offer they can’t refuse, which is unlikely considering Burks’ stock is in the toilet.

The Titans would be better off holding on to Burks as depth and perhaps he can build up his value or simply turn his career around in the process.
