‘Abortion trafficking’ bill filed in Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An “abortion trafficking” bill was filed in Tennessee on Monday by State Representative Jason Zachary R-Knoxville.
The bill, HB 1895, creates a criminal offense of abortion trafficking of a minor and provides a civil action against a person taking a pregnant minor out of state to get an abortion.
“Abortion – As introduced, creates the criminal offense of abortion trafficking of a minor; provides for a civil action against a person committing the offense of abortion trafficking of a minor for the wrongful death of an unborn child that was aborted. – Amends TCA Title 8, Chapter 6; Title 29; Title 37 and Title 39,” the bill reads on the Tennessee General Assembly’s site.
Zachary also co-sponsored a bill pertaining to abortion in 2023, HB 0090, “As enacted, prohibits local governments from expending funds for the purposes of assisting a person in obtaining a criminal abortion.”
