Virginia’s defense landed a promising addition to its recruiting class of 2024 on Monday when defensive tackle/end Tyler Simmons of Windermere (Fla.) Prep announced his commitment on Twitter.

Simmons (6-foot-4, 260 pounds) chose the Cavaliers over Miami, South Carolina, NC State, Michigan State, Stanford, Indiana, Northwestern, Kansas, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, ECU and a host of Ivy League schools, among others.

The Florida lineman comes from good stock. His father, Brian Simmons, was an All-American at North Carolina and was a first-round NFL draft choice, playing a decade in the league for the Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints.

Tyler Simmons is a 3-star with loads of potential. He has good speed (4.6 in the 40-yard dash) and is ranked among the top 120 defensive linemen in the country (No. 115 by On3, No.116 by 247Sports) and among the top 150 prospects at any position in the talent-rich state of Florida

A 4.0 student at Windermere, academics was a strong factor for the Simmons family in considering a football home.
