Several South Carolina piers collapse from Hurricane Ian

SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF/Grey Information) – A number of piers in South Carolina partially collapsed Friday as Hurricane Ian made landfall alongside the east coast.

The storm brought on a center part of the Cherry Grove Pier in North Myrtle Seaside to break down. It was simply one of many many constructions downed within the space from storm surge.

The Cherry Grove Pier is a landmark within the space. It was constructed within the early Fifties and was transformed and lengthened in 1999 after Hurricane Floyd.

WMBF can also be reporting components of the Apache Pier and 2nd Avenue Pier collapsed as nicely.

In the meantime, the Apache Pier is a widely known fishing pier in Myrtle Seaside and boasted as being the east coast’s longest picket pier.

Additional south, a part of the Pawleys Island Pier broke off and began floating away, in keeping with the Pawleys Island Police Division.

“Tidal surge has lived as much as the predictions,” the division mentioned in a put up on Twitter.

Ian’s most sustained winds had been 85 mph when it got here ashore and battered the state with damaging winds, heavy rain and life-threatening storm surge.
