Kim Kardashian visits the White House to highlight criminal justice reform

Businesswoman and reality TV star Kim Kardashian visited the White House Thursday to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris about criminal justice reform, an issue for which Kardashian has long been an advocate.

Harris announced a new rule from the Small Business Administration that lifts some restrictions on loans for people with criminal records.

“Making this available, reducing and eliminating that restriction is going to mean a lot in terms of second chances and the opportunity for people to excel,” Harris said.

“Is it not the sign of a civil society that we allow people a way to earn their way back, and give them the support and resources they need to do that?” Harris said.

The event comes the day after President Biden used his clemency authority to pardon 11 people who were convicted of non-violent drug offenses and commute the sentences of five others. The White House says these individuals received disproportionately long sentences and would have been given shorter sentences under current laws and policies.

Four of the pardoned individuals attended the event with Harris and Kardashian Thursday.

“I am super honored to be here to hear your stories today,” Kardashian said. “I think it’s so important to share them an amplify them because there are so many people that are in your position that can use the inspiration.”

Kardashian was instrumental in elevating the issue during the Trump administration, advocating for pardons and meeting the former president and his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner.

The White House says so far, Biden has commuted the sentences of 122 individuals and granted pardons to 20 who committed non-violent drug offenses.

Biden has recently been highlighting his efforts on marijuana reform, even mentioning it in his State of the Union address last month. In 2022 and 2023, Biden issued and expanded a proclamation that pardoned those with convictions of simple possession of marijuana under federal law.

The topic is one that invigorates many young voters and voters of color, which are groups Biden will need to turn out for him in order to win reelection in November.

The Missouri baseball team evened its series with the No. 15 South Carolina Gamecocks 8-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers came out swinging and scored four runs in the first inning on three RBI singles by Trevor Austin, Mateo Serna, and Drew Culbertston. The team also plated a run in the third on an RBI single by Culbertson and two runs in the fourth on a two-RBI triple by Jackson Lovich. The Tigers added their final run onto the board in the eighth on an RBI single by Jedier Hernandez.

The Gamecocks put a pair of runs on the board in the sixth inning on an RBI triple by Cole Messina and an RBI single by Gavin Casas and added an additional run in the seventh with a solo home run by Blake Jackson.

Pitcher Carter Rustad started on the mound for the Tigers. The senior went 6.2 innings and allowed five hits, three runs (all earned), and struck out six.

South Carolina baseball drops Saturday contest at Missouri

COLUMBIA, M.O. (South Carolina Athletics) – Missouri plated four runs in the first on its way to an 8-3 win over the University of South Carolina baseball team Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium.

Missouri’s Carter Rustad came in for an injured Javyn Pimental in the first and got out of a bases-loaded jam. He ended the day going 6.2 innings and striking out six while allowing five hits and three runs.

The Tigers had seven runs in the first four innings of play. Carolina closed the cap to 7-2 with a Cole Messina RBI triple and a Gavin Casas RBI single. Blake Jackson homered in the seventh, his fourth of the year, but Missouri scored another run in the sixth for the final outcome.

Eli Jones took the loss, allowing seven hits and five runs with two strikeouts and three walks in 2.2 innings pitched. Tyler Pitzer had five strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief.

POSTGAME NOTES

Carolina had its four-game winning streak over Missouri snapped on Saturday.
Messina is 9-for-16 in his last five games.
Carolina is now tied for third place in the SEC East with Georgia heading into Sunday’s games.

In-state 2026 OL commits to South Carolina

South Carolina’s fast start for the class of 2026 continues.

Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe three-star IOL Anthony Baxter announced his pledge to the Gamecocks on Saturday, giving them three commits for the class.

Baxter chooses Carolina over early offers from Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Penn State, Duke, Cincinnati and Charlotte.

Baxter was recruited to the Gamecocks by offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley.

The 6-foot-3.5, 345-pounder is considered the No. 535 overall prospect and No. 48 interior offensive line prospect in the 2026 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of the four major recruiting media sites.

He is also considered the No. 9 prospect in South Carolina.

On3 ranks Baxter as the No. 58 IOL and No. 11 prospect in the state.

Baxter’s South Pointe teammate, four-star safety J’Zavien Currence, is considered the top prospect in the Palmetto State for the cycle.

Baxter joins a South Carolina 2026 class that is off to a blistering start.

Jackson (Ala.) four-star quarterback Landon Duckworth kicked off the class with a commitment last August. Newnan (Ga.) four-star linebacker Rodney Colton Jr., ranked On3’s No. 2 LB in the class, joined the party a couple of weeks ago.

The three-man class is now ranked third in the country in the On3 Team Recruiting Rankings, behind only Florida State and Southern Cal.
