Kentucky women fall to South Carolina in their regular season finale
Coming off of an upset win over Tennessee on Thursday, the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team were hoping to close the regular season with another upset. They faced off against coach Dawn Staley and South Carolina, and played well, but ultimately took a 78-66 loss.
The Gamecocks jumped in front early, but the lead at halftime was just eight points. The Cats were strong in the third quarter, and cut it to five points. However, they ran out of gas in the fourth, and South Carolina pulled away.
Both teams shot the ball well, but South Carolina made almost 50% from the floor. Turnovers were the biggest difference. Kentucky turned it over 14 times, leading to 19 points for the opponent. The Gamecocks only gave it up eight times for just six points.
Clara Strack was terrific again for the Wildcats, totaling 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting. She also had 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Georgia Amoore added 16 points, while Teonni Key and Dazia Lawrence also had double figures.
The SEC Tournament begins on March fifth, but Kentucky finished as the number four seed, meaning they won’t play until Friday.
