Kentucky baseball evens series against South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WYMT) – No. 4 Kentucky almost let another game slip away versus No. 24 South Carolina Saturday night.

After giving up a six-run first inning, UK rallied to tie the game in the fourth, and then take the lead.

The Wildcats scored 11 unanswered runs until the Gamecocks scored three in the sixth inning.

South Carolina gave Kentucky a scare, nearly hitting a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth.

With the win, Kentucky clinches a winning record in SEC play for just the eighth time in its history.

Grant Smith drove in four runs, Ryan Nicholson hit two home runs and Ryan Waldschmidt extended his hit streak to 12 games with four more hits and four runs scored on the evening.

UK moves to 33-8 on the season and 16-4 in conference play.

The rubber match against South Carolina will be tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
