Fifth-Years Barry and Zullo Take Down College of Charleston

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina women’s soccer moved to 2-0-0 on the season, taking down College of Charleston (3-1-0) in front of over 5,600 fans, the fifth-largest crowd in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Gamecocks got things started quickly, taking a corner just 37 seconds into the game, followed by another at the 14-minute mark
  • The Cougars got on the board first, however, scoring 17 minutes into play
  • South Carolina took two more corners and put up three shots, but were unable to connect before the end of the first half
  • Just under two minutes into the second half, fifth-year Corinna Zullo nabbed the equalizer with assists from fellow fifth-years Cat Barry and Brianna Behm
  • In the 54th minute, Barry got off a shot that snuck through the legs of the Cougars’ keeper to put the Gamecocks on top 2-1
  • Less than 10 minutes later, Zullo picked up her second goal of the game on a pass from Zullo to extend the lead to two
  • The Gamecocks weren’t done yet, with Barry capping off scoring for South Carolina in the 83rd minute from Behm to make things 4-1

NOTABLES

  • South Carolina outshot College of Charleston 16-8, and took six corners to the Cougars’ three
  • Keeper Tina Tsaousis tallied two saves, a new career-high
  • With Barry’s game-winner, she moves to the No. 1 overall spot in the record books for career game-winners, tying with Savannah McCaskill at 17
  • The Gamecocks have outscored their opponents 9-2 in the opening two games

South Carolina will head up to Ohio for the first road test of the season, taking on Ohio State on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 4:00 p.m.
