Donald Trump, Rick Scott split on South Carolina Senate endorsement
The Senator already serves with POTUS’ pick, but he went with a Congressman from Upstate.
South Carolina Republicans are getting ready to vote in next month’s Special Primary to decide who ultimately should be the party’s nominee for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the death of Lindsey Graham, and Rick Scott is diverging from President Donald Trump’s choice in the race.
During a Fox News interview Saturday, Scott endorsed U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman for the nomination.
“Ralph’s a hard worker. He’s done a great job in Congress. He’s a fiscal conservative. He’s somebody I’ve worked with since I got up to the Senate. I think he’ll do a great job,” Scott said. “He understands we can’t keep running $2 trillion deficits and get inflation under control. So, he understands the budget and understands the economy and understands what we have to do to change the direction of this country.”
The Senate Primary is the Rock Hill Republican’s second attempt to get elected statewide this year. He finished third in the first heat of the South Carolina gubernatorial Primary earlier this summer.
Trump endorsed Sen. Darline Graham this week after urging her to run for the seat days after she was appointed to fill it. She is the sister of the departed Senator.
“Darline, who comes from an absolutely incredible family, has been a WINNER all of her life and, should she accept, has my Complete and Total Endorsement in the Special Election for U.S. Senate in South Carolina — SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN. RUN, DARLINE, RUN!”
