4 students charged after guns found at South Carolina middle school

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – 4 college students have been charged after three handguns have been present in a scholar’s bookbag at Sedgefield Center College on Monday, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Workplace stated.

Three of the scholars have been taken to the Division of Juvenile Justice in Columbia and one was launched to a guardian, based on deputies.

The sheriff’s workplace stated the weapons have been discovered after a faculty useful resource officer met with a scholar and the varsity’s principal, Heather Ducker, on Monday morning a few scholar believed to be in possession of a handgun.

The scholar, based on deputies, was exhibiting a firearm on the bus that morning. As soon as on the faculty, the bag carrying the weapons was handed between the opposite college students earlier than authorities discovered them in a backpack in an eighth-grade classroom.

In a message to oldsters on Monday, Ducker stated faculty directors labored with legislation enforcement and took “quick motion” to conduct a focused search.

“We’re following all procedures as outlined by the district’s insurance policies to handle this matter, with help from legislation enforcement,” stated Ducker. “With security and safety as our highest precedence, we take all stories that pertain to the security and safety of our college severely.”
