2 wanted in South Carolina murder arrested in Metro East
MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (First Alert 4) – Two suspects wanted in connection with a homicide that happened in South Carolina were arrested in Madison County, Illinois on Tuesday.
John Chapman, 52, is charged with being a fugitive from justice – homicide. Laura Chapman, 46, is charged with being a fugitive from justice – accessory to felony homicide. Both are from Greer, South Carolina.
Police say they spotted a stolen white Chevrolet 6500 dump truck inside the Wood River city limits around 1:25 p.m. The truck eventually left Wood River, going southbound on Illinois Route 255. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Illinois Route 255 just north of I-270 and arrested both suspects. Police from four departments helped track the suspects down, Wood River police say.
Both suspects were wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in Greer on April 15, Gray station WHNS reports. They are being held in Madison County Jail, awaiting extradition back to South Carolina.
