1.9 magnitude earthquake shakes the Midlands

A 1.9 magnitude earthquake struck South Carolina late Sunday, according to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.

SCEMD says the earthquake occurred just before midnight at 11:57 p.m.

The United States Geological Survey reported the earthquake was centered about 3 miles west-southwest of Irmo.

The tremor brings the total number of earthquakes recorded in South Carolina this year to 10.
