LAS VEGAS, NV (Dakota News Now) -Another sign that football season is upon us are the start of media days in college.

The Big 12 held their conference day in Las Vegas this week and, of note for South Dakota State and their fans, is that they will be facing Oklahoma State star running back Ollie Gordon II in the opener despite the reigning Doak Walker Award winner and Heisman Trophy candidate being arrested on June 30th for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Gordon rushed for more than 1700 yards and 21 touchdowns as a sophomore last year and was at media day in Las Vegas.

Asked what Gordon’s punishment should be, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy appears to think that Gordon should see a lot of the Jackrabbits in the opener.

”I said you’re not going into hiding. You’re going to face the music, you’re going to have to stand up and talk to people and answer questions and, hopefully, more than football, you can learn from the situation you’ve been in because, if not, then we have a real issue. But he’s going to play and I’m going to do what I think, what we think, is best for Oklahoma State football. And I think it’s best for Ollie to play. If there’s any punishment it’s making him carry the ball 50 times in the first game.” Gundy told ESPN.

SDSU and Oklahoma State square off at 1 o’clock on Saturday, August 31st in Stillwater.
