Oklahoma Governor Appoints New Native Affairs Liaison
Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt appointed a new state liaison for Native American affairs on Tuesday at the state capitol.
Former Cherokee Nation Councilor Wes Nofire will fill the position, according to the governor’s office.
Gov. Stitt said Nofire will “build bridges” between tribal and state governments.
Like Gov. Stitt, Nofire has been a critic of the fallout from the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on McGirt v. Oklahoma.
The court’s decision determined large parts of eastern Oklahoma are still, legally, tribal land.
