Former Nowata Co. deputy facing embezzlement charges

NOWATA, Okla. (KFOR) – According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, a former Nowata County deputy is facing embezzlement charges.

On January 25, 2018, the Nowata County Sheriff’s Office requested the OSBI’s help in an embezzlement investigation.

Officials say in 2018, the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s Office discovered that six firearms were missing from the Nowata Co. Sheriff’s Office. The investigation led OSBI special agents to the home of Thomas Campbell, a former Nowata Co. deputy.

On June 26, 2024, a search warrant was served at the residence and one of the missing firearms was found. On July 3, Campbell was arrested and taken to the Craig County Jail on Embezzlement charges.

According to the OSBI, the investigation is ongoing.
