For the second consecutive season, Elk City senior Kash Mayfield is the Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year, it was announced Monday.
The Oklahoma State signee is considered one of the country’s best high school prospects and is projected as an early-round selection in July’s MLB Draft.
Mayfield, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder, led Elk City to a stellar 28-5 record and the Class 4A tournament quarterfinals this past season. His dominance on the mound was evident as he went undefeated in eight starts, boasting a remarkable 0.16 ERA and 115 strikeouts through 44 innings. His opponents struggled to hit against him, holding opposing batters to a .030 batting average while allowing only four hits and one earned run. Mayfield also shined at the plate, batting .476 and scoring 31 runs.
Mayfield was named to the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association’s Middle West All-State team last month and to The Oklahoman’s All-State second team in 2023.
