In a recent incident in Lumberton, North Carolina, tragic events unfolded when an individual, later identified as Ricky Alex Driggers, 28, allegedly engaged in a carjacking, resulting in the loss of life of Jonathan Adam Lecompte, 38. According to law enforcement officials, Driggers stands accused of first-degree murder, along with charges of attempted common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle, and felony fleeing to elude.

The sequence of events, captured on video and widely disseminated on social media, portrays a confrontation between Lecompte and Driggers. Lecompte, wielding a firearm, attempted to intervene as Driggers purportedly stole a vehicle. The footage depicts Lecompte issuing a warning to Driggers: ‘Don’t get in the god damn truck fool,’ before discharging four shots.

As Driggers maneuvered the stolen vehicle in reverse, Lecompte can be heard shouting a cautionary remark: ‘Get out the way, he is going to run into us.’ Subsequently, Lecompte and another individual are observed fleeing across the roadway, only to be struck by the oncoming vehicle. The impact propelled Lecompte into the air, eliciting distress among bystanders who rushed to his aid.

Following the collision, Driggers fled the scene but was later apprehended by officers from the Lumberton Police Department. Authorities stated that Driggers was pursued until he crashed the stolen vehicle on Selma Road near Highway 41.

In a formal statement, the police department outlined the sequence of events, affirming the involvement of bystanders who attempted to thwart the carjacking. Tragically, one of these individuals, identified as Lecompte, succumbed to injuries sustained during the altercation.

At present, Ricky Alex Driggers is detained without bond at the Robeson County Detention Center, pending further legal proceedings.
