Voting registration deadline for NC’s 2026 primary election is Feb. 6
BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina’s 2026 primary election is Friday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m.
Primary Election Day is Tuesday, March 3.
To register to vote in this state, including in Buncombe County, you must be:
- At least 18
- A U.S. citizen
- A N.C. resident and have lived in your precinct for at least 30 days before the election
- Not be in jail, prison or serving parole for a felony conviction
You can also do same-day registration during early voting from February 12 through 28, with a valid ID and proof of residence, according to the N.C. State Board of Elections.
BUNCOMBE COUNTY REMINDS VOTERS OF KEY 2026 PRIMARY ELECTION DATES AND REQUIREMENTS
According to a press release, registration options in Buncombe County include:
- Download this form and mail it to Buncombe County Election Services by 5 p.m. on Feb. 6.

Ways to vote in Buncombe County:
- Absentee by mail: Request a ballot now through Feb. 17 either online or in printed form. Ballots must be returned by Election Day by 7:30 p.m. on March 3.
- Early voting: Eleven early voting sites are available in Buncombe County from Feb. 12 through Feb. 28.
- Election day: Vote at your assigned polling location on March 3. Check your location online or call election services.

The state board of elections said Feb. 6 is also the deadline for registered voters to change party affiliation before the primary Election Day.
