Visitors to North Carolina national forests warned of bears
ASHEVILLE, N.C.
Guests to nationwide forests in western North Carolina are being warned that bears are getting near people and even circling campsites.
The U.S. Forest Service issued the warning for Pisgah and Nantahala nationwide forests. The service says guests have reported bears tearing down bear baggage from bushes, carrying off backpacks, spending hours close to campsites and ignoring efforts to scare them away, The Charlotte Observer reported.
The rise in bear encounters coincided with the Memorial Day weekend and targeted on the Pisgah, Appalachian, and Nantahala Ranger Districts, the service stated. No accidents had been reported.
Final June, experiences of aggressive bears led to a brief ban on tenting alongside a portion of the Appalachian Path.
North Carolina’s most up-to-date bear assault that led to a dying was in 2020 when an Illinois man was killed whereas tenting in Nice Smoky Mountains Nationwide Park. Final September, a pair was injured by a bear as they had been having fun with a picnic alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.
