Three N.C. A&T Students, Alumna Intern with NCDHHS Division of Public Health

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 21, 2023) – Three North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State College college students and a current graduate are collaborating in paid spring semester internships with the North Carolina Division of Well being and Human Providers as a part of its Traditionally Black Faculties and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Establishments (MSIs) internship program.

Religion Baldwin, Carmen Haywood, Jaylah James ’22 and Anirea Ortiz are engaged on a mission with the Division of Public Well being throughout their eight-week internships that can embody work of their assigned mission space, weekly seminars, presentation apply and an immersion occasion on the finish of the internship expertise.  

The American Rescue Plan Act’s Public Well being Workforce Improvement Initiative is funding their internships.

“With this internship program, NCDHHS builds upon its sturdy partnership with North Carolina’s HBCUs and MSIs to interact college students in public well being and human companies early, an important piece of our workforce investments,” mentioned Mark Benton, NCDHHS deputy secretary for well being.

Baldwin, of Bowie, Maryland, is a senior pursuing a B.A. in liberal research from the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Haywood, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, is a senior pursing a B.S. in administration from the Willie A. Deese School of Enterprise and Economics.

James, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, holds a B.A. in psychology from the John R. and Kathy R. Hairston School of Well being and Human Sciences.

Ortiz, of Hartford, Connecticut, is a senior pursuing a B.S. in utilized engineering expertise from the School of Science and Expertise.

NCDHHS manages the supply of health- and human-related companies for all North Carolinians, particularly our most susceptible residents — kids, aged, disabled and low-income households.
