Jan Tripp of Hertford, North Carolina, has been named the local program co-coordinator for Special Olympics Perquimans County effective immediately, according to Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) President/CEO Keith L. Fishburne.

Tripp is employed as a special education teacher at Perquimans High School, where she also volunteers as a soccer coach. From 1998 to 2004, Tripp supported the former Special Olympics Hertford County local program coordinator in the organization of local Special Olympics programming and state-level competitions. She has also served as a volunteer with North Carolina schools, the Elizabeth City Jaycees, Perquimans County EMS and her local church.

As local program co-coordinator, Tripp will assist Chiquita Sutton, who has been serving as co-coordinator for Perquimans County, in the implementation of Special Olympics activities within Perquimans County by leading a volunteer committee that will provide sports training and competition opportunities along with health and wellness initiatives for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This involves recruiting, training and managing volunteers, increasing athlete participation and raising funds in support of the program.
