Greg McElroy gives preview of South Carolina and North Carolina matchup

One of the top matchups in Week 1 of the 2023 college football is South Carolina vs. No. 21 North Carolina.

The game will be in Charlotte, and features 2 of the elite quarterbacks in college football.

Greg McElroy, who knows a thing or 2 about the quarterback position, takes a look at the matchup.

“This is arguably the best quarterback matchup of the weekend,” McElroy said. “Let’s start with North Carolina. Drake Maye is phenomenal. He is capable of elevating his play to a level that only Caleb Williams can match, which is saying a lot. He is a dynamic runner. If you get too aggressive in your pass rush, he will take off.”

The talk about Spencer Rattler is that he has had the best off-season of his career, and a new offensive coordinator could help him even more.

“Spencer Rattler is working with a new offensive coordinator in Dowell Loggains,” McElroy said. “Dowell Loggains
has been a perfect addition to the South Carolina team. He brings an NFL experience and pedigree, and Spencer Rattler by all accounts has had the best camp of his career. Really playing confidently, playing fast, making good decisions and being very accurate.”
