Quick slant: The Hurricanes will try to move on from their awful home loss to Georgia Tech. But Miami has a tough task in front of it, as North Carolina has proved itself to be one of the ACC’s top teams through the first part of this season. Led by likely first-round NFL draft pick Drake Maye, the Tar Heels have one of the top offenses in the nation.

About No. 25 Miami (4-1, 0-1 ACC): Miami lost its first game of the year in the most baffling fashion, failing to run out the clock and seal a win. But beyond the end-of-game decisions, the Hurricanes had their first real offensive struggles of the season, failing to convert on several key drives.

About No. 12 North Carolina (5-0, 2-0 ACC): The undefeated Tar Heels have run roughshod through most of their schedule so far this year. They have outscored opponents 183-95 and are coming off a 40-7 victory against Syracuse.

Three things to watch

1. The biggest question entering Saturday’s game is whether or not Miami can recover from its devastating loss to Georgia Tech. Hurricanes’ seasons have crumbled over less shocking losses than that. Hurricanes players have said they have moved on from the loss. But we will see if that translates to the field. Saturday’s game will be a test of Miami’s mental fortitude.

2. Not only does Miami have to recover from Saturday’s loss mentally, they simply need to play better. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who entered the UM loss with only one interception all year, threw three last week. He needs to perform better for the Hurricanes to have a chance at beating UNC. Miami’s defense played well for most of the game against the Yellow Jackets, but they buckled against the passing attack on the game’s final drive. North Carolina has an excellent passing game, so UM will need to improve on that front.

3. North Carolina has had a high-powered offense with Maye at the helm, but the defense has been surprisingly good this year, too. The Tar Heels don’t have a world-beating unit, but it is greatly improved. Last year, UNC had the No. 102 defense in the nation. This year, under defensive coordinator and former national champion coach Gene Chizik, the Tar Heels have improved to No. 30.
