Former North Carolina Tar Heels signee Simeon Wilcher announced Monday he will commit to St. John’s.

Wilcher, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey, requested a release from his letter of intent with North Carolina after Elliot Cadeau reclassified to the 2023 class.

Cadeau was set to join the Tar Heels in 2024.

Plus, guard R.J. Davis is returning for the 2023-24 season.

Wilcher initially committed to North Carolina in October 2021, picking the Tar Heels over Auburn, Connecticut, Kansas, Miami, Nebraska and Ohio State among other offers. He also turned down an offer to join Overtime Elite.

Wilcher is head coach Rick Pitino’s 12th new addition to St. John’s since he got the job in March. Pitino previously coached from 2020-2023 at Iona.
