CISLM releases diversity audit for North Carolina newsrooms

The Heart for Innovation and Sustainability in Native Media (CISLM) has launched findings from a statewide range audit of North Carolina newsrooms.

CISLM, housed on the UNC Hussman Faculty of Journalism and Media, partnered with Elon College’s NC Native Information Workshop on this effort to achieve a greater understanding of the North Carolina journalism workforce. The CISLM analysis crew, led by Analysis Director Jessica Mahone, designed the surveys and analyzed outcomes.

Key findings from the report

Survey respondents had been:

· Largely white

· Usually incomes lower than $50,000 per 12 months.

· Probably newer, with 50% of respondents becoming a member of their present place throughout the previous three years.
