Charlotte woman wins first $100k in new Cash 5 promotion, NC Lottery announces

RALEIGH, N.C. — A girl from Charlotte has gained the primary $100,000 prize within the new money prize promotion from the North Carolina Lottery.

Georgia Richardson of Charlotte turned the primary top-prize winner on Jan. 9, when her good luck helped her to win the prize within the first drawing of the promotion. Every drawing affords one prize of $100,000 and 40 prizes of $500.

Richardson went to the lottery headquarters Friday to gather her prize. Following required state and federal tax withholdings, she ended up taking dwelling $71,250.

The Money 5 Bonus Money Drawing promotion shall be run by Jan 29 with three extra drawings scheduled. Gamers who spend $5 or extra on a single Carolina Money 5 ticket at a retail location are given an entry into the drawing; Richardson bought her Money 5 ticket from the Harris Teeter on Windfall Street in Charlotte.

The entry deadline for the second drawing shall be this Sunday, the drawing is scheduled for Monday.
