Battleship North Carolina to unveil new illumination upgrades ahead of Veteran’s Day weekend
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) -The USS North Carolina Battleship Commission unveiled new, advanced illuminations for the ship ahead of this year’s Veteran’s Day weekend.
The project was years in the making, with 16 months of design and installation work funded by the Friends of the Battleship North Carolina and the Kirkpatrick Foundation.
The Battleship team installed the system engineered by IlluminFX. The series of lights produces subtle illumination of the superstructure to create visual interest for locals and tourists alike.
Debuting on Friday, Nov. 8, passersby on the Riverwalk will be the first to see the upgrades that will give the Port City’s evening viewshed, allowing the Battleship to maintain its visual impact along the Cape Fear River.
The showcasing, ‘Light the Legacy’ will begin at 5:30 p.m., lighting up the Battleship in a cycle that will repeat into the evening so the audience has enough opportunities to see the entire sequence.
The best views will be available along The Riverwalk anywhere the Battleship is visible. Custom travel binoculars will be available as giveaways through the Battleship and their local partners.
“Light the Legacy is the latest innovation to support the Battleship’s mission to honor North Carolina’s veterans while enhancing the ship’s ability to serve as a beacon of hope in America’s first World War II Heritage City,” says Dr. Jay Martin, Executive Director of Battleship North Carolina Memorial.
