Zachary residents help Mississippi town after March tornado; Council member Westmoreland has personal tie

A workforce of Zachary firefighters and volunteers left early April 3 to offer assist and assist to folks in want in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. The workforce included metropolis of Zachary employees, Mayor David McDavid and extra.

Rolling Fork was hit by an EF4 twister March 24. It traveled 59.4 miles and was three-fourths of a mile huge. 13 folks on the town died.

The firefighters cooked a pastalaya meal for the residents of Rolling Fork. The Fireplace Division thanked folks in Zachary for the donations that made the journey attainable. 

The journey was private for Zachary Councilwoman Brandy Westmoreland.

“After I heard in regards to the catastrophe in Mississippi, I knew I needed to go. My faculty roommate lives there. Equipment McCoy serves her neighborhood very like I do. She’s a banker and serves her neighborhood on a number of board seats,” Westmoreland stated.

“That is what we do as neighborhood leaders: we serve! It was a humbling expertise and proper right here throughout Easter week it was good to be God’s arms and toes. My coronary heart pours out for them. I’ve by no means seen a catastrophe of that magnitude.”
