NATCHEZ — Emergency personnel had been steadily trying to find a barge employee who fell into the Mississippi River till about 5:45 p.m. at the moment when the restoration effort stopped due to dusk.

The search will resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten mentioned.

“We have now been on the market trying since we acquired the decision this morning,” Patten mentioned. “Right now, the search known as off because of lack of daylight. OSHA can also be right here to do their investigation and the location can be locked right down to civilians and bystanders. We ask that family and friends of this man keep at residence and we are going to replace you because the search continues.”

The accident occurred at roughly 4:30 a.m. close to the Port of Natchez. Patten mentioned the person was within the space of the Buzzi Unicem USA terminal on L.E. Berry Highway when he was making an attempt to climb a ladder onto a walkway and fell into the river.

The search and rescue effort included the mixed work of Adams County Search and Rescue and the Natchez Hearth Division, personnel from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Workplace, and Mississippi and Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries with 4 boats, drag nets and an ACSO drone with heat-sensing capabilities.

Because the day went on, the search and rescue effort turned a restoration effort.

“Right now of 12 months, the water is icy chilly,” Patten mentioned. “The world the place he fell is a minimum of 25 toes deep and in some locations, it will get as much as 40 toes deep.”
