Two MSU communication faculty members honored by Mississippi Theatre Association

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Two Mississippi State Division of Communication school members took residence awards from the latest Mississippi Theatre Affiliation annual competition.

Teacher Melanie Harris received the award for Excellent Contribution to Neighborhood Theatre – Faculty and College Division, and lecturer Paula Mabry received Greatest Route – Neighborhood Theatre Division.

MTA is the Magnolia State’s main theatre advocate and sponsors festivals, instructional workshops and networking alternatives; acknowledges excellence in efficiency and manufacturing; and sanctions representatives to regional festivals and competitions.

Harris stated she is flattered that MTA, a company she loves and respects, thought she was deserving of an award.

“It feeds my soul to see all the highschool youngsters with all their pleasure and enthusiasm,” Harris stated of MTA-related outreach packages. “Yearly, just a few of these superb youngsters I meet present up at MSU as freshmen, and I get to observe them become assured, succesful artists. It’s an amazing reminder that I genuinely have the perfect job on this planet.”

Terry Likes, professor and MSU Division of Communication head, stated Harris consistently strives so as to add finest practices into her curricula, works with public faculty lecturers and teaches workshops on the Southeast Theatre Convention.

“Melanie has been a longtime fixture with the MTA group,” Likes stated. “Her service to the group of Mississippi theater artists has been identified for years, and I’m grateful that the MTA group has lastly acknowledged her contributions by this award. Melanie is a precious member of the Mississippi theater group and the MSU household.”

Mabry, who received for her course of Glen Berger’s “Beneath the Lintel” by Starkville Neighborhood Theatre, stated there may be a number of stress to do effectively when work is introduced for adjudication.

“I’m humbled to have our play so effectively obtained and particularly honored to get awards for the play,” Mabry stated. “Theatre and directing and instructing are my passions. I take into account myself lucky to have the ability to do all of these issues in Starkville and at MSU.”
