Severe weather update: Straight-line winds of up to 80 mph, tornado possible for Hinds Co.
Much of Central Mississippi is under an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms with the potential for wind gusts of up to 80 mph and the possibility of tornadoes.
Isolated hail is also possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Hinds County was under a tornado warning, and residents were encouraged to move to a safe space. Residents were encouraged to stay off the roadways.
Terry and Byram were in the line of the storms at 5:10 a.m.
Heavy rains and destructive winds of up to mph were possible for the Jackson metro area until 6:15 a.m. as the storm moved toward Rankin County.
A thunderstorm watch was in place until 10 a.m.
Heavy lightning was recorded throughout the Jackson area.
A tornado warning for Hinds County was lifted at 5:15 a.m. by the National Weather Service but the risk for severe thunderstorms including high winds was present for much of Central Mississippi.
Thousands were without power across Central Mississippi.
