STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs earned a series victory over Gerogia Southern on Sunday afternoon as they won the rubber game, 10-2, over the Eagles. The Bulldogs offense exploded for 10 runs in the game as well had a solid outing on the mound.

Jurrangelo Cijntje drew the start in the series finale against the Eagles, picking up his first victory of the year. He struck out seven in five innings of work while also only allowing one hit, one earned run and two walks. Brooks Auger and Cam Schuelke both only gave up one earned run and three walks combined while Tyler Davis closed the game, only allowing one hit.

David Mershon led the Diamond Dawgs at the plate as he went 4-for-5 with one run and two RBIs. Bryce Chance and Connor Hujsak both led the team in RBIs with three, and Hujsak went 2-for-2 at the plate. Amani Larry and Hunter Hines also had impressive outings, going 2-for-3 and 3-for-5 respectively. The Bulldogs had 15 hits as a team.

Mississippi State is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 27, when they face Jackson State at Dudy Noble Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be seen on SECN+. The Dawgs will take on Mount St. Mary’s this Thursday-Saturday. First pitch for Thursday’s game is at 3 p.m., 3 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Rebels (29-12, 10-8 SEC) took the biggest leap in the rankings, making an eight-spot jump to No. 17 despite not budging in the top 25 a week ago after sweeping LSU. Once Mike Bianco’s club took the first two games at Tennessee in the most recent series, D1Baseball co-owner Kendall Rogers made note that Ole Miss fans could expect to see their team catapult in his outlet’s poll. Next up for the black and gold is a Tuesday midweek battle versus former conference foe Tulane, before making an hour and a half drive to South Alabama for the weekend.
