Mississippi gov again proclaims Confederate Heritage Month
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves is defending his determination to once more title April as Accomplice Heritage Month.
The Republican governor signed a proclamation Friday. It doesn’t point out that making an attempt to protect slavery was Mississippi’s said purpose for making an attempt to secede in 1861.
Reeves responded to questions Wednesday, saying earlier governors have issued Accomplice Heritage Month proclamations. He stated he didn’t assume this was the 12 months to cease.
Mississippi has taken steps lately to distance itself from Accomplice symbols. Reeves signed a legislation in 2020 that retired the final state flag within the U.S. that featured a Accomplice battle emblem.
