Mississippi 19-year-old killed in west Alabama head-on crash with tractor-trailer
A 19-year-old from Mississippi was killed in a head-on crash with an 18-wheeler in Sumter County.
Alabama State Troopers on Friday identified the fatality victim as Emanuel Hernandez. He lived in Meridian.
The wreck happened at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 59, about seven miles north of Livingston, said Trooper Cpl. Reginal King.
Hernandez was driving a Honda Civic that collided with a Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 40-year-old Amit Kumar of California.
Hernandez was not using his seat belt at the time of the crash, King said, and was ejected. He was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he was pronounced dead on Wednesday.
The investigation is ongoing by troopers.
