MEMA: Winter weather-related deaths up to 11 in MIssissippi

PEARL, Miss. (WDAM) – A fatality on Mississippi 51 in Panola County brought the state’s winter weather-related deaths to 11 over the past week.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said the Mississippi Highway Patrol was investigating.

MEMA has been tracking weather-related deaths since Jan. 14, when winter weather first hit Mississippi.

Additional deaths have been reported in Chickasaw, Humphreys, Leflore, Rankin, Sharkey, Sunflower and Washington counties.

Warmer temperat6ures are headed Mississippi’s way, starting Monday, but MEMA still continues to ask caution be the guide when outside.

Drivers, especially in north Mississippi, are asked to use extreme caution, be aware of black ice on the roads and drive only if necessary. For more information on road conditions, go to MDOTtraffic | Powered by MDOT.
