Life after prison advocates visit the Capitol

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The Mississippi Re-entry Coalition is a community of volunteers and organizations from across the state. On Tuesday, they advocated on the State Capitol for individuals who return to their communities after being behind bars.

The group believes the voices of the previously incarcerated are sometimes overlooked when the policy-making course of is occurring. Audio system from across the state expressed their considerations about stopping legal guidelines from being handed that they imagine add to Mississippi’s mass incarceration drawback. Alicia Netterville shared her ideas about re-entry within the state of Mississippi.

“We will need to have insurance policies and applications throughout our whole state to make it possible for returning individuals have what they should overcome the inevitable obstacles that they are going to face on this facet of jail partitions and jails,” Netterville stated.

By sharing its considerations, the group hopes lawmakers will finally go laws to assist make re-entering society simpler after serving time.
