John Davis pleads guilty for conspiracy to defraud the State of Mississippi of millions

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – On Thursday, the previous Mississippi Division of Human Companies director, John Davis, pleaded responsible to his position within the state’s largest welfare scheme.

The investigation discovered that MDHS misspent greater than $77 million in welfare funds beneath Davis, together with $1.1 million in TANF funds.

Davis, 54, pleaded responsible to at least one depend of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft regarding packages receiving federal funds, and one depend of theft regarding packages receiving federal funds, in response to a press release from the Division of Justice.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 2, 2023, and faces a most penalty of 5 years in jail for the conspiracy depend and 10 years in jail for the theft regarding packages receiving federal funds depend.
