STARKVILLE — A Josh Hubbard master class lifted Mississippi State basketball to an 81-69 win against LSU on Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum.

The sophomore guard scored 30 points in the game, 20 of them in the second half. No. 24 MSU (20-9, 8-8 SEC) trailed the Tigers (14-15, 3-13) for the majority of the first half but scored 46 points in the second half.

The win meant MSU avoided its first three-game losing streak of the season.

Selection Sunday is two weeks away, so here’s a look at how the win could affect Mississippi State.

How Mississippi State basketball’s win vs. LSU affects March Madness

Mississippi State was a double-digit favorite in this game, so a 12-point win against lowly LSU likely won’t move it up much in the March Madness bracket predictions.

The Bulldogs went into Saturday projected as a No. 7 seed by ESPN and a No. 6 seed by CBS Sports.

The win followed the pattern that has defined MSU’s season. It’s still 0-7 against the top 14 teams in the NCAA NET rankings but 20-2 against everyone else.
